Vaccines unavailable, Problem compounded by shortage of essential supplies: PDP

Srinagar, May 17 (KNS): The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has pilloried the administration for its ineptness and gross mismanagement in the allocation of essential supplies, vaccines towards regions during this grave crisis leaving people of Jammu and Kashmir to fend for themselves.

In a statement issued here to Kashmir news service (KNS),  the Party Spokesperson Mohammed Najmu Saqib has said that the present administration is acting ostentatiously impervious to the woes of the people.

" Essential supplies are nowhere in sight, inflation has skyrocketed burdening the already suffering common man, life-saving drugs are elusive and yet administration rather than being focused on resolving these issues is geared towards stifling dissent, arresting artists and patting itself on the back for 'robust' management, " Saqib said.

"For days together no vaccines were administered in Kashmir and the unmitigated disaster in Jammu continues unabated as deaths spiral due to the shortage of Liquid Medical Oxygen. The crisis in Jammu has reached such a grave proportion that the administration has reportedly diverted Oxygen plants earmarked for Srinagar to Jammu to arrest the skyrocketing number of deaths, " he added.

Urging authorities to expedite the scale and speed of vaccination drive, the spokesperson said the mismatch between the percentage of inoculation in Jammu vis-a-vis Srinagar is skewed and concerning.

"For days together not a single soul was vaccinated in Srinagar. While ninety-five per cent of the population above 45 years has been inoculated in Jammu, the numbers for Srinagar are shockingly only thirty per cent for the same age group. Reports of vaccines not being available in Srinagar for weeks are concerning, "the spokesperson added.

Ruing the fact that militarization of lockdowns has also had an adverse impact on the vaccination drive, Saqib urged the administration to look into the reports of doctors and even common people being beaten up while en route to vaccination centres.(KNS)
