Srinagar, Mar 18 (KNS): Hurriyat (M) Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that the announcement of vacation of land by the army at four places was a “good step but it should be implemented in practice.”
“The announcement is a good step but it should be implemented practically,” Mirwaiz told KNS.
Mirwaiz demanded that the land occupied by the army in across the state should be vacated. He said that those places occupied by the army which have tourism potential should be freed to develop tourism.
“Army camps in rural and urban areas should be freed as these camps are a reason for angering youth and the people as a whole.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelBesides, the tourism land occupied by the army must be handed over to the government for development of tourism,” the Hurriyat chief said.
A government spokesman said on Thursday that the army has agreed with the Governor N N Vohra to vacate land at 16.30 acres of state land held by it adjoining the Jammu University campus; 212 acres of land held by it at Tatoo Ground, Srinagar; 456.60 kanals of land at High Grounds, Anantnag; and land held at lower Khurba Thang in Kargil.
