Usman Majid lashes out at WUCMA, says dredged material poses great threat to surrounding areas

Srinagar, Feb 16 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party vice-president and former MLA Bandipora Usman Majid lashed out at Wular Conservation and Management Authority, saying that WUCMA had made the surrounding areas flood prone as they are dumping the silt along the bunds which makes local areas vulnerable to floods.

Majid in a statement issued to news agency KNS said that the extent of dredged silt being produced from the Wular poses a genuine threat to local population. "Therefore, a critical need to consider reuse of this dredged soil arises."

He said the silt dredged out of the Wular Lake a lot of dredged material is generated which poses a challenge for its proper disposal. "The disposal of dredged material poses great threat to surrounding and poses a serious health and environmental problem," he said. (KNS)
