Uri residents stage protest against ‘blasphemous’ remarks

Uri, August 18 (KNS): Locals and traders of Uri town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday held a peaceful protest march against the ‘blasphemous’ remarks against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and demanded exemplary punishment to the accused.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), hundreds of locals and those associated with trade assembled in Bus Stand Uri and started march towards SDM Office. The protesters while on way raised slogans against the accused who used blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) couple of days ago in Reasi district of Jammu region.
Terming the remarks “deliberate attempt” to vitiate the aged communal harmony in J&K, protesters demanded exemplary punishment to the accused.
Mohammad Shafi, Chairman Beopar Mandal Uri while talking to KNS condemned the remarks and said no Muslim can tolerate abusive and derogatory remarks against their beloved Prophet (SAW). He exhorted upon authorities to book the accused under relevant sections of law and said exemplary punishment should be given to such elements who lacks any respect to other faiths.
However the protesters, later on, dispersed peacefully from SDM Office Uri. (KNS)
