Srinagar, June 09 (KNS): Lower House on Thursday witnessed uproar as the Opposition demanded condemnation from the House “hateful” speech of VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi against Muslims.
As the proceedings of the House began this morning, Congress and National Conference leaders created ruckus in the House and demanded response from the government over Sadhvi Prachi’s statement.
Prachi has reportedly said that she wanted a ‘Muslim-Mukt-Bharat (Muslim free India)’.
VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi has said in UP that that “it is time to make India free of Muslims (Muslim-Mukt-Bharat).
“Government has to respond to the hateful speech of Sadvi Prachi,” said Mubarak Gul. He was joined by legislators Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mohd Shafi Uri, Altaf Ahmad Kaloo and Abdul Majid Larmi.
Congress Legislative party leader Nawang Ragzin Zohra said that PM Modi is trying to present himself as a secular leader abroad “while he has given free hand to people like Sadhvi Prachi to speak venomous against a particular community with an aim to divide the people of India on religious lines.”
Congress MLA from Inderwal GM Saroori accused the BJP-led government at the Centre for “destroying secular fabric of the nation”.
“These people, who spew venom on the name of religion, are hell bent of dividing the nation, besides destroying its social fabric,” said Saroori.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Supporting the demands, CPI (M) state secretary and MLA Kulgam, MY Tarigami asked the government to clear its stand over the “highly provocative” statement of Prachi.
“India belongs to everyone. This nation is not a property of any individual community or religion. This nation was founded on secularism, so such statements are highly provocative to damage its integrity,” Tarigami said.
However, BJP MLA, Sat Sharma, tried to intervene but he was interrupted by independent legislator, Er Rasheed.
“You want to make India Muslim free, that’s why Kashmiris do not trust you. The Central government’s slogan is desh badal raha hai.”
Deputy Chief Minister-Dr Nirmal Singh intervened and condemned the statement.
“Mere newspaper report cannot authenticate whether she has said it or not. Even if somebody has said it, it is highly condemnable,” Singh said.
However, NC legislator Abdul Majeed Larmi demanded action against Sadvi Prachi.
The Dy CM said that India is a secular state and such statements are not good for the integrity and secularism of the nation. “There is no scope for such statements. Every individual in the county is equal,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, opposition members staged walkout in the legislative council over Sadvi Prachi’s remarks. (KNS)
