Srinagar, Jun 25(KNS): The JK United People's Alliance (UPA) on Thursday called for sustained dialogue, inter-community reconciliation and a time-bound plan for the return and rehabilitation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits during a conference attended by representatives of various social, religious and civil society groups here.
The "Heart to Heart – Dil Se Dil Tak" conference, held at the Amar Singh Club, brought together nearly 100 delegates, including members of the Kashmiri Pandit community, religious leaders, academicians, former civil servants, lawyers, youth representatives and social activists.
Addressing the gathering, UPA chairman Syed Salim Geelani said dialogue and reconciliation were essential for building a peaceful and inclusive future for Jammu and Kashmir and urged all sections of society to strengthen mutual trust and understanding.
Senior advocate Ashok Bhan called for the establishment of a time-bound and impartial Truth and Reconciliation Commission to examine human rights violations by both state and non-state actors since the 1980s.
He said the return of Kashmiri Pandits was essential for restoring Kashmir's social fabric and urged the Union government to formulate a comprehensive plan for their safe, dignified and sustainable rehabilitation.

Senior leader Muzaffar Shah said the conference reflected a collective commitment to coexistence and social harmony and stressed the need for confidence-building measures and greater cooperation among the regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Participants also expressed concern over rising drug abuse and narcotics trafficking and called for coordinated efforts by families, educational institutions, civil society groups and government agencies to address the issue.
The alliance also unveiled a vision document advocating peace, reconciliation, interfaith harmony, inclusive development, employment generation, educational reforms, transparent governance and greater public participation in decision-making.
The conference concluded with a resolution to continue dialogue initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir to promote social harmony, address regional concerns and facilitate the dignified return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.(KNS).
