Govt. says it will invite fresh bids for Valley farmers

Srinagar, Jan 03 (KNS): The Kashmiri farmers affected by the natural calamities haven’t been given any insurance cover by the government so far while as farmers of Jammu division were covered under the centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) in November, 2016.
According to the KNS correspondent, under centrally sponsored insurance scheme only farmers from Jammu region have been covered while the farmers of Kashmir Valley, already reeling under crises due to bad weather and climate change, have been left in lurch.
The Agriculture Minister in the legislative assembly on Wednesday informed the house that the insurance scheme for the farmers being affected by the natural calamities called PMFBY was implemented in the state vide Government Order No: 2645 Agri of 2016, dated 16-11-2016.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHowever, the scheme has covered the farmers of Jammu region only and no single farmer from Kashmir Valley has been provided the insurance cover for his crops.
“The scheme is presently under implementation in Jammu division and all districts have been covered whereas in Kashmir Division, fresh bids are being invited from empanelled insurance companies for accord of contract under PMFBY and weather based Crop scheme in respect of apple and saffron,” reads the reply given by the agriculture minister to query submitted legislator Gulzar Ahmad Wani.
