Srinagar, Jan 20 (KNS): United Resistance Leadership held a public rally on Saturday, to commemorate the massacre of 21st January 1990, in which more than 50 people were killed and hundreds injured when Indian forces and police opened fire on a peaceful procession.
In a statement issued to KNS, the spokesman said that, the leadership from all factions of Hurriyat was present there, the rally was addressed by Raja Meraj Ud Din Kalwal from APHC( G), Noor Muhammad Kalwal from JKLF and Ghulam Nabi Zaki from APHC(M) .
They said that, “Police on yesterday started an oppressive drive to stop this protest program and besides house arresting APHC (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and APHC (M) chairman Mirwaiz Muhammad Omer Farooq, arrested JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik”. Adding “but despite all these harsh measures, leaders from the united resistance camp along with people from other walks of life managed to gather at the memorial Chowk Basant Bagh and held a peaceful protest program”.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The joint resistance leaders said that 21st January was an important day of our 5000 year old history. On this day thousands of unarmed people came out of their houses to demand freedom and protested against the crackdown of Indian forces.
“Indians During their struggle for freedom against British witnessed only one Jalianwala Bagh massacre but Kashmiris have witnessed dozens of such massacres carried out by Indian forces since 1990,”the statement readout.
In their statement they have alleged that in 1990, the then home minister of India and founder of today’s ruling party PDP Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, deployed a fascist governor Jag-Mohan in Jammu Kashmir with a purpose to kill and oppress Kashmiris. (KNS)
