Anantnag, Jan 03 (KNS): The illegal extraction of sand and boulders from the rivers in Anantnag district is going unabated, despite the state government has imposed ban on it.
In Sangam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district extraction of sand and boulders is being done- despite the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag vide order No. 10750-69/DMA Dated 28-01-had ordered a complete ban on illegal extraction of stones, boulders and sand from the rivers. The orders is being violated and government authorities seems helpless.
The officials of flood control and Fisheries Department said that they are fining the violators and act, but this has become menace.
Locals told KNS that the extraction of sand and boulders is causing damage to our agricultural land as the water level in the stream is receding. “Few years before there were dozens of springs and streams flowing through this area.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelBut today the water level is decreasing even in Nalla Bringi due to the illegal extraction of sand and boulders. Today we are forced to fetch water from far off places.” Locals said.
“We are surprised that the district administration is not looking into the issue,” they said.
Gh Mohiuddin Hajam a local resident of Kamal told KNS that the business of extraction of boulders and sand in nallas has badly affected the nearby agricultural fields.
When contact to the District officer of Geology and mining Showkat Ahmad Shah, He said that we seized two dumpers jk13B 9710 and jk13B 9711 yesterday evening at Sangam area and fined Rs 28250. Both the drivers are behind bars at police station Sangam. (KNS)
