Ukraine Crisis: J&K Students Association issues Toll free for Stranded Kashmiri Students

 Srinagar February 25:(KNS) Jammu and Kashmir Students Association here today issued Toll number for students stranded in War-hit Ukraine as tensions over a possible Russian invasion mounted. In a statement issued, the National Spokesperson of Association said that Students studying in Ukraine in Colleges, Universities under professional and non-professional courses, and are stuck there can get in touch on Toll free number 18008919650. Association has also set up helpline numbers to assist students who are in distress and have asked students to get in touch on their helpline numbers- 9149676014, 790634 8764, 8825005327, 7006228608 and submit their details in prescribed format which include Name, Contact, Family Contact, college and Present address.

 
Association is further coordinating with the Lieutenant Governors' Office who are in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs for evacuation on a fast track basis. We have located and identified around 50 students out of 170 as of now and have shared their details to the Lieutenant Governor office and officials of the Ministry of External Affairs. The Union Territory Government is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and embassy in Ukraine. Necessary measures are being taken to evacuate them at the earliest. 
 
Additional Spokesperson of Association Danish Lone said that these stranded students want to return back home at an earliest. Their families are deeply concerned and worried about their safety. We don’t have cash with us. There is nothing left in supermarkets. We are so stressed & worried and are moving to bunkers. They have booked a flight for return which suddenly got cancelled. They want to reach home safe and sound, Khuehami, Danish said while quoting stranded Kashmiri students. 
 
Lone urged the External affairs Ministry to intervene immediately to ensure their safety and to make arrangements for their safe return. Stranded students continue to be anxious. Several students have sent SoS to us, seeking help for safe evacuation given the tensions. It is the responsibility of the government to bring these students from Ukraine safely, he added.(KNS)
