Ganderbal, Oct 9 (KNS): Two teenage boys from Srinagar have gone missing after they lost their way in a forest area in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district while trekking, officials said on Friday.

The boys, identified as Huzair and Minaan, called the emergency helpline 112 for help after losing their bearings in the Rayil Gund forest, they said.

Following the distress call, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Gund police and the 112 police unit rushed to the location to trace the boys and rescue them safely.

However, officials said no contact had been established with the missing boys yet, as their mobile phones were switched off.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelEfforts were on to trace them, the officials added.

The incident is the latest in a series of similar cases in central Kashmir, where dense forests and difficult terrain have often complicated rescue efforts.

In May this year, the body of a Ganderbal teenager, Munner Ahmad, was recovered from Nallah Sindh after a 13-day search operation involving the SDRF, police and local volunteers.

In August 2023, a youth identified as Mohd Amjid Raina slipped to death while walking towards the upper reaches of a forest in the Baba Nagri Wangath area of Kangan, also in Ganderbal district. (KNS)
