Budgam, September 11(KNS): In a significant development for Jammu & Kashmir’s horticulture and logistics sectors, two dedicated parcel trains were flagged off today from Budgam Railway Station, carrying the season’s finest Kashmiri apples to major markets in Delhi and Jammu.
This marks a historic milestone in the Valley’s post-harvest transportation infrastructure, offering a faster, more efficient, and reliable alternative to road transport for the region’s prized horticultural produce, an official said.
With both trains fully loaded with freshly harvested apples, this initiative is expected to substantially reduce transit time, minimize post-harvest losses, and improve market access for local growers, he said.
The move is seen as a major boost to the region's economy and a step forward in integrating Kashmir’s agricultural output with national supply chains.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Officials present at the flag-off ceremony hailed the development as a transformative step for the Valley’s economy. “The introduction of dedicated parcel trains from Kashmir opens a new chapter for our growers. It ensures timely delivery to distant markets and reduces our dependency on road routes that are often disrupted due to weather or other logistical challenges,” said a senior railway official.
The shift to rail-based logistics not only strengthens the commercial viability of Kashmir's horticulture sector but also aligns with broader national objectives of enhancing agricultural infrastructure and connectivity in remote regions.(KNS).
