Amid complete shutdown, minor clashes erupt in locality

Srinagar, May 24 (KNS): Two militants were killed by security forces in Sarai Balla locality here on late Monday evening.
The brief encounter started hours after three policemen including an Assistant sub-Inspector, were killed in two separate militant attacks in Srinagar.
Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra said that among the two slain militants one has been identified as Saifullah, while the identity of another slain militant is being ascertained.
The DGP said that one AK-47, one pistol and other weapons were recovered from the encounter site.
The two militants were putting up as student tenants from the last five days in a residential house in Sarai Balla.
An official told KNS that after specific information about the presence of militants, forces cordoned off Sarai Bala area and launched house to house searches at around 10:00 pm.
“The two militants fired on the search party. We retaliated back and the militants were killed in a brief encounter,” the official told KNS.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Soon after the encounter, the house owner, Raja Begum, who is the widow of Ghulam Mohammad Hakeem, said that her grandson, Burhan Ahmad, a student, was detained by police for questioning.
“Later, in the morning the police officials of the police station concerned visited the family and assured the family to release the grandson as early as possible,” the official said.
Meanwhile, a spontaneous shutdown was Tuesday observed in he locality against the killing of two militants.
All the shops and other business establishments in the vicinity of Sarai Balla market remained closed, while vehicular movement was thin on nearby roads.
Minor clashes erupted between youth and forces in the area after the locals tried to hold funeral prayers-in-absentia for the two militants. Police used tear smoke shells to disperse the youth. (KNS)
