Srinagar, Jan 26 (KNS): Two Jaish-e-Muhammad militants were killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Khamoh area of Pampore in Srinagar outskirts on Saturday morning.
Police said a joint search operation was launched in the area following the inputs about the presence of militants there. However, the hiding militants from a single storey house fired upon the search party, which was retaliated, thus ensuing gunfight.
“In the gunfight, two militants have been killed,” police said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Swayam Prakash Pani said that two militants were killed in the gunfight, adding that the preliminary information suggest that the duo was affiliated with JeM outfit.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The bodies of two militants and arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site, he said, adding that the material recovered from their possession suggest that they were affiliated with JeM outfit.
Reports said that one among the slain militants has been identified as Saqib Shafi Dar of Lelhar Pulwama while as another is non-local.
However, there was no official confirmation over their identification till the report was last filed. (KNS)
