 Srinagar Feb 22 (KNS): Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in sangam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.

Reports reaching to Kashmir News Service said that “Two Lashkar-e-Toiba  militants  have been killed in an operation by the police, the CRPF and the Army at Sangam Bijbehara. Arms and ammunition were also recovered,” a police spokesman said.
The duo was killed in a gunfight that broke out during a cordon and search operation launched during intervening night of Friday-Saturday in Sangam area.
“The hiding militants fired upon the search party. Later both the bodies were recovered from the encounter site,” the police said.
As per police records they were affiliated with proscribed outfit LeT and were wanted by law for their complicity in crimes including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities, a police statement issued to said.
“According to the Police records, Naveed had a history of militancy since 2018 and was involved in planning and executing several attacks in the area. Several militancy cases were registered against him including Case FIR No. 10/2019 pertaining to firing on Army camp at Khudwani Kulgam, FIR No. 31/2019 pertaining to civilian atrocities, FIR No. 67/2019 pertaining to planning of attacks on security forces in the area, FIR No. 03/2020 pertaining to recovery of ammunition at Rampora area of Kulgam besides several other cases were also registered against him including case FIR numbers  57/2018, 26/2019, 50/2019 of PS Qaimoh,” statement said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Similarly, Aqib was involved in several militancy cases including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities. Several cases were also registered against him including case FIR No. 34/2019 and 03/2020 of PS Qaimoh, police statement said.   
“Pertinently there was no collateral damage during the course of encounter. Incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in crimes,” statement said.
Meanwhile  Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Dilbagh sing on Saturday ina presser said that two Lashker  Toiba militants were killed in the encounter.
The DGP identified the militants as  Naveed  Ahmad  and Aqib yaseen Bhat and said both were involved in many militant activities.
He also said that one militant was also apprehended in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and he has been identified as Junaid Farooq.
DGP also said that 12 operations has been done successfully so far in which 25 militants have been killed besides 40 Over Ground Workers (OGW)  of militants were arrested.  (KNS).
