IGP hails Army for foiling infiltration bids, Police verifying Musa- LeT strategy

Srinagar, Oct 14 (KNS): Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were Saturday killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Lassipora village of Litter area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, Police said.
A civilian was also killed during the clashes that erupted following the killing of militants in the area.
Following the killing of two militants, the locals took to streets and protested against the killing of militants.
The protesters also pelted stones on forces who in return fired upon the protesters, which resulted into the killing of a civilian.
The slain civilian was identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir of Allaypora village of Pulwama district
He had sustained bullet injury and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital wherefrom he was referred to Srinagar’s for treatment.
However, the injured succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Munir Ahmad Khan admitted the killing of a civilian in Pulwama. “One civilian was killed in Pulwama while another sustained injuries,” he said.
He said that the injured civilian is undergoing treatment at SKIMS. “He was operated in the hospital and is stable,” he said.
While addressing a news conference here, IGP informed reporters that two LeT militants were killed in Pulwama district in an hour long gunbattle today.
He identified the slain militants as Waseem Shah of Heff Shopian and Naseer Mir, son of Hameed of Litter.
IGP also termed the killing of Waseem Shah as big success for the forces. “The killing of Waseem who was affiliated with Lashkar and was active since the year 2014 would provide relief to the area,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Khan told reporters that an operation was launched in Lasipora Litter yesterday after specific information about the presence of two LeT militants in a house, which belong to a slain militant who he identified as Pintu.
“Following the inputs, a joint operation was launched by Army, CRPF and Pulwama Police,” he said, adding that the militants hiding in house were asked to surrender but they didn’t and opened fire upon the forces.
“The fire was retaliated, ensuing the gunfight. The encounter was ended after one hour,” he said, adding that following the encounter, magazines and other ammunition were recovered.
IGP further informed that 60 FIRs wee registered against Waseem Shah who was killed today. “Among the 60 FIRs, there was a murder charges against him and recruiting the youth,” he said.
Asked about the reports that the LeT and former Hizb commander Zakir Musa will jointly operate, IGP said that he will not deny the intelligence report. “We have received the inputs in this regard and we are verifying it,” he said.
IGP Kashmir also hailed Army for foiling the number of infiltration bids along LoC. “Yes, the infiltration attempts along LoC have been increased. The number of infiltrated militants in Kashmir could have been swelled but all credit goes to Army who foiled various big attempts along LoC. At least 60-70 militants were on LoC while infiltration,” he said.
He also informed that a few militants are infiltrating. “A big group that as per reports has entered in this part of Kashmir is being investigated,” he said. (KNS)
