Two day exhibition on ‘Monumental Glory of Kashmir’ held at Amar Singh college Srinagar

Srinagar November 24 (KNS):  In the purview of celebrations of World Heritage Week from 19th to 25th November 2022, the Department of History Amar Singh College, Cluster University Srinagar in collaboration with the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K organised an exhibition on the “Monumental Glory of Kashmir” in Amar Singh College on 23-24 November 2022. The purpose of the exhibition was to familiarise the students with the history and heritage of Kashmir, and to make them conscious about the significance of the preservation and conservation of the monuments created in the past. The exhibition was inaugurated by the worthy Principal Amar Singh College, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, accompanied by Deputy Director, Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, and students and other teaching faculties.

 

In the exhibition, Mr Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh, Deputy Director of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, introduced different historical monuments of Kashmir and discussed the need for and importance of preserving them as the cultural heritage of the region. The exhibition was visited by the students as well as the faculty of all the departments of the college who put forward their remarks for the initiative. The visitors to the exhibition came to know about the monuments constructed during ancient, medieval, and modern Kashmir. The grandeur of the monuments of Kashmir invited curiosity of visitors to visit them in person in future. On the second day, the faculty and students visited the exhibition on large scale. The visitors displayed a keen interest in knowing about the material, content, technology, and human power used in the construction of the monuments. The students enjoyed the exhibition and felt enriched by the social and cultural history of Kashmir. The exhibition ended on the 24th of November 2022 successfully, for which the Department of History and the Department of  Archives, Archaeology and Museums are thankful to the college administration which provided the essential requirements for the organisation of the event. (KNS)
