Srinagar, Jan 10 (KNS): Two militants of Al-Badr militant outfit were killed in an encounter late last night in Hasanora village situated in the border of Kulgam and Anantnag districts, police said here on Monday.

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a police spokesperson said that based on a specific input generated by Kulgam Police regarding the presence of militants in Hasanpora village, a joint cordon and search operation was launched yesterday evening by Police and 1stRR in the area.

The statement reads that during the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter.

"In the ensuing encounter, two militants of Al-Badr outfit were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. They have been identified as Imad Muzaffar Wani resident of Arigam Pulwama and Abdul Rashid Thoker resident of Hassanpora," it reads. 

It reads that as per police records, slain were part of groups involved in several militant crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. "Besides, Imad Wani was involved in an attack on police personnel Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay of Pulwama on December 19, 2021, in which the cop got seriously injured. Abdul Rashid Thoker, before joining militant ranks was working as militant associate and was also involved in attack on a civilian at Chitragam in which the civilian got injured," it reads.  

It reads that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated. (KNS)
