Srinagar, Mar 08 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two accused persons involved in grenade attack in Amira Kadal and also stated that two-wheeler user in the crime has also been seized.
 
In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a spokesperson said that on March 06, an information was received about a grenade attack that took place near Amira Kadal bridge at about 4:20 PM. “On receipt of this information, a case under FIR number 18/2022 under section 307 of IPC, sections 7/27 of Indian arms act, sections 16, 23 of Unlawful activities Prevention Act was
registered at Shaheed gunj Police station.” 
 
The statement reads that it came to fore that the hand grenade was thrown towards a security forces vehicle and this blast caused injuries to a total of 38 persons including 36 civilians and 2 police personnel namely Reyaz Ahmed SgCT and Jan Mohd, SPO
 
“Later, two of the injured from among the civilians succumbed to their injuries
namely Mohd Aslam Makhdoomi (79) of Nowhatta and Rafia Nazir (18) of Hazratbal. In light of this, Section 302 of IPC and sections 3, 4 of Explosive Substances Act were added to this case.”
 
It reads that SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal formed a SIT headed by SP south, Lakshay Sharma and consisting of SDPO Kothibagh, Shabir Ahmed, SDPO Shaheed Gunj, Fayaz Hussain, DySP PC Faizan Ali, Anzar Shah DySP(Probationer), Gowhar Hussain SHO Shaheed Gunj and Taseer Ahmed Inspector/PC as members.
 
It reads that the SIT employed modern means of investigation and based on the technical
evidence like frame by frame analysis of the CCTV footages of the crime scene, footages of CCTVs of the whole City, tower dump analysis, IP dump analysis, some eye witnesses accounts & crime scene recreation. 
 
“Based on these, SIT was able to identify two accused who used a two wheeler without number-plate to commit this act and fled on the same vehicle after committing the
act. During the intense analysis of the CCTV trail in Srinagar city, the route adopted by both accused was located back to a neighbourhood in the Khanyar area.”
 
It reads that the first accused namely Mohd Bariq son of Mohammad Shafi Magrey of Koolipora, Khanyar was arrested from Khanyar, Srinagar. “His initial examination led to arrest of second accused namely Fazil Nabi Sofi son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi of Khanyar.”
 
It further reads that the two wheeler used in this grenade attack was also seized by SIT. It further came to fore that these two accused had committed the act on online directions of active militants in Kashmir valley.
 
“The plan was to attack the parked security vehicle but due to grenade lobbing from a moving two-wheeler, the target was missed and the grenade exploded in an adjacent crowded area where many road-side vendors and buyers were busy in routine work.”
 
It reads that further, it was also found that this particular area was chosen due to being abuzz with people and traffic. “There have been 2 other recent grenade attacks in this area i.e. on August 10, 2021 and on January 25, 2022. Further investigation is underway and is in full swing in this case.”
 
It reads that this act of grenade throwing had created terror, panic and anguish among the masses in whole of Srinagar city. 
 
“Srinagar Police requests all commercial establishments and shops to install CCTV cameras inside and outside of their shops and commercial establishments as per advisory issued by DC Srinagar. This will act as strong deterrence to all the anti-social elements,” it reads. (KNS)
