Handwara, Jan 06 (KNS): A truck carrying illegal timber was seized and a smuggler has been arrested in Zachaldara area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said on Saturday.
An official told KNS that based on a specific input, naka was laid at Satkoji during which a truck carrying 5 logs of illegal timber was intercepted and seized on the spot.
He said a case FIR number 02/2024 U/S 379 IPC, 26 IF has been registered at police Station Handwara.
He identified the timber smuggler as Nazir Ahmad wani was also arrested.
SP Handwara Dawood Ayub said that police has tightened grip against smugglers to curb timber smuggling in the area.
Meanwhile locals in the area have applauded the role of Handwara police for its action against the timber smugglers. (KNS)
