Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNS): Police today confirmed to have killed two militants in a 16-hour long gunfight in Nazneepora village of southern Kashmir’s Tral in Pulwama district.
“Two militants killed in the gunfight. One of them is a local Hizb commander, and another Pakistani. Unfortunately, we have lost one Jawan of the SOG of JK police,” Director General of Police, S. P. Vaid told reporters at the wrath laying ceremony of a slain SOG men here in Srinagar as per KNS correspondent.
The two militants have been identified as Aqib Molvi of Hayuna Tral and another has been identified as a foreigner.
The gunfight began last evening when government forces cordoned off Hafoo hamlet in Nazneepora area in Tral.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“We had specific inputs about presence of militants in the village,” Vaid said.
The gunfight lasted for more than 16 hours, with exchange of heavy gunfire between militants and forces. Forces used IED blasts to raze the house to ground to kill militants.
An SOG men, Manzoor Ahmad Naik of Uri, of police was also killed while four forces personnel, including an army major, two soldiers and a CRPF trooper, were injured in the encounter.
Clashes have erupted in Tral following the encounter, and as per reports four protesters were injured in the clashes with forces. (KNS)
