Srinagar, Oct 20 (KNS): In a tragic road accident in Jammu region, 14 passengers were killed and 17 others injured when passenger bus plunged into a gorge at Dalsar area of Ramnagar in Udhampur district of Jammu region Tuesday morning.
SSP Udhampur Sulaiman Choudhary told KNS that 14 passengers died and 17 others were injured after the bus they were travelling in plunged into the gorge at Dalsar.
“It was an LP bus with 24 capacity and 32 passengers were onboard at the time of accident,” he said.
He said the accident occurred around 8:45 am the bus (JK14C-8068) plunged into as the driver failed to negotiate a sharp turn at Dalsar.
The bus was on way from Ghodi to Ramnagar tehsil of the district.
Seven out of 17 injured are reported to be critical. While 3 persons have been admitted in the Military Hospital, 1 referred to Government Medical College and 13 under treatment in District Hospital Udhampur.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
An official spokesman said the driver of ill fated bus JK 14-C 8068 lost control over the vehicle reportedly while over speeding and was reportedly speaking on mobile phone when he lost the control on over speeding to pick passengers as another bus was following it.
The spokesman said the administration has provided relief of Rs 1 lakh each to the Next Kin of dead and Rs 10,000 each to the injured in accident.
More than 14 persons were evacuated from the trapped vehicle.
The dead include Ajay Kumar, Khem Raj, Sapana, Surjoo Devi, Ragbir Singh, Ashok Kumar, Ganesh Dutt, Sushma Devi, Shailo Devi, Santi Devi, Mulkh Raj and Subash Kumar, Ramnagar.
The injured include Polli Devi, Geeta Devi, Bal Krishan, Yash Paul, Pooja Devi, Raksha Devi, Dharmu Devi, Roshan Kumar, Sudesh, Kumar, Pinky Devi, Monika, Mulkh Raj, Chait Ram, Dharam Chand, Shubham and Jeet Kumar. (KNS)
