Kupwara, September 23 (KNS): Failure of the authorities to check frequent traffic jams in Kupwara town here causes immense inconvenience to the commuters, particularly on the eve of Eid ul Azha.
In absence of any traffic regulation, unending traffic congestion occurs daily on vital routes including the DC office road, main Chowk, Bypass and the Iqbal Market crossing. KNS observed that failure of the traffic department to ensure smooth flow of traffic has evoked strong resentment among the commuters and locals.
“Frequent traffic jams have drastically affected our lives and business. The worst affected are the government employees and students,” Bashir Ahmad, a government employee told KNS. The locals said the problem gets compounded as Army convoy's heading for Tanghdar and Lolab sector often pass through the Kupwara town during peak hours.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Traffic jams can prove detrimental for patients in case of any medical emergency. Ironically, the concerned authorities are acting as mute spectators,” the locals said. They said wrong parking of vehicles on main roads also contributes to traffic jams. “There is a single parking slot in the town. People have no option but to park their vehicles haphazardly,” said Rouf Hussain a local. Ironically, police only regulate traffic movement to facilitate VIP movement.
“We appeal the senior Traffic officials to take measures to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic,” the residents said.
