Traffic Education Must Start Early to Tackle Rising Challenges: SSP Traffic Rural

Srinagar, Dec 2 (KNS): SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Paul Singh, on Tuesday stressed the need for sustained traffic awareness and responsible driving, stating that enforcement alone cannot resolve the increasing traffic challenges in the Valley.

Speaking to reporters as per KNS ,during an awareness programme held at Pattan, Singh said traffic management requires community participation and early education.

“We have spent crores on enforcement, but awareness is the key. Students, teachers, and parents must understand and follow the Motor Vehicle Act. Traffic education should begin from primary classes,” he said.

The SSP added that the traffic department has been conducting awareness programmes across schools, colleges, and universities, including seminars and quiz competitions, as part of its community policing initiative.

With snowfall predictions for the coming days, Singh said multiple advisories would be issued.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He urged transporters to strictly follow fixed fare rates, warning that overcharging and overloading would face zero tolerance. “Last year, we seized 10–15 vehicles for violations. All rate lists must be displayed clearly at Sumo stands,” he said.

Responding to questions on vehicle seizures, Singh clarified that outside vehicles are detained only for valid reasons. “If documents are incomplete, ownership is unclear, HSRP plates are missing, or the vehicle is involved in a violation, seizure becomes necessary,” he explained.

He also warned against stunt driving, calling it a major risk to public safety, and said the police are working strictly to curb such behaviour.

Singh urged public cooperation, saying, “Through your media, I request everyone work cleanly, follow the rules, and help us ensure safe and smooth traffic movement.”(KNS)
