Trade Bodies Flag Ticket Price Hike, Airport Restrictions at CCIK Meet in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 1 (KNS): A meeting of various trade bodies, including hoteliers, travel trade representatives, houseboat owners, shikara operators, transporters, general traders, associations and district trade presidents, was held today at Hattrick Rajbagh under the chairmanship of Tariq Ghani, President of Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir.

The meeting witnessed significant participation from key trade heads representing tourism, hospitality, transport and other allied sectors, along with district presidents from across the Valley.

During the meeting, several pressing issues affecting the business and tourism ecosystem of Jammu & Kashmir were discussed. The participants expressed serious concern over the recent hike in ticket prices at major tourist attractions, including the Tulip Garden, Gulmarg Gondola and other parks, without prior intimation or consultation with stakeholders. The members also raised concern over the daily closure of operations at Srinagar International Airport till 5:00 PM, stating that the restriction is likely to reduce tourist traffic to the region and affect the livelihood of thousands associated with tourism and allied sectors.

The participants stressed the need for greater coordination and transparency in decision-making processes impacting trade and tourism. It was resolved that all issues raised during the meeting will be taken up with the concerned authorities for immediate review and necessary action. The association heads assured full support and cooperation to CCIK.

Meanwhile, CCIK President Tariq Ghani reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the business community and ensuring sustainable growth of the tourism sector in Jammu & Kashmir.(KNS)
