At least 27 flights are coming daily and 4000-5000 visitors come daily through National Highway

 Taking forward its promotional campaign, the state tourism department is going on a big way to attract visitors from Indian plains (domestic) and Far East (high-end).

Talking to KNS, official of tourism department said that the immediate focus would Kolkatta and other Indian plains where tourism department is going on a big way to attract Pooja and Deewali holidayers. Besides, the department would be focussing on Far East to attract high-end tourists to the state.

The official added that despite negative publicity after the recent flood threats, the tourism department has been successful in reviving the industry and a good response of tourists was seen in the month of May and June. The official said that Chief Minister, who is also the minister incharge for tourism, is personally monitoring the promotional campaign.

The tourism official, however, said that because of bad weather which closes Srinagar-Jammu National Highway off and on has affected tourist arrival in a big way. ‘But we are hopeful of better times ahead, as dept has started Kashmir Calling Campaign through electronic and print media,” he said.

The tourism official said that accommodation for tourists is sufficient in Valley as 5000 more rooms have been added in the past few years. “For high-end hotels the business is good, but there is slight slag in low-end hotels,” he said.

The official said that the reports that tourist arrivals has declined was only propaganda.
