Srinagar, June 1 (KNS): Tosa Maidan Bachan Front expressed gratitude to chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for throwing open Tosa Maidan as a tourist destination and accepting the demand of developing Tosa Maidan on Community-driven Adventure and Rural Tourism-CDART basis.
There are several demands yet to be approved by her, the important and priority based demand being compensation to be paid to the families of victims killed, the front said.
In a statement, it also extended gratitude to former chief minister Omar Abdullah for putting a halt over further leasing-out Tosa Maidan to Army as firing range in 2014.
It credited Chairman J&K RTI Movement Dr Shaikh Ghulam Rasool for bringing together 64 Panchayats forming the front in 2008. "Dr Shaikh did our hand-holding to lead our course to a bold move of evacuating, army from Tosa Maidan that had witnessed 65 deaths and injury of over 70 inhabitants of our area and, showed further how to develop Tosa Maidan as a tourist destination.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHad he not been sent as a savior from Allah to guide us, our Tosa Maidan would have continued to remain meadow of death," it said.
"We would also like to show gratitude to whole media fraternity for letting everyone know our miseries, especially journalist Moazum Mohammad, in particular for carrying out the first ever story on Tosa Maidan," it added.
"Last but not the least, all thanks to the Community, RTI Activists, Sarpanches like Ghulam Mohiuddin, Manzoor Rather, Mohammad Akram, Master Maqbool, Molvi Maqbool and Community leader, Nazir Ahmed Lone," it added. (KNS)
