Srinagar, Aug 04 (KNS): Stating the any tinkering Article 35-A and Article 370 will prove disastrous, PDP youth Secretary Arif Laigaroo has expressed grave concern over heightened degree panic in valley.

“Any tinkering with Article 370 or Article 35-A will be disastrous for the state,” Laigaroo said, adding that “We will fight till death against any move to tinker with the State’s special status”.

He said that many PDP workers were harassed. “PDP will be the only party that stands like a wall (to protect special status),” he said in a statement issued to KNS.

“Article 35-A and Article 370 are a matter of faith and dignity for the local populace. These articles safeguard the mainstream thought and politics in Kashmir Valley. Any fiddling with them would end mainstream politics in the state,” Laigaroo said.

“The rumors of a possible threat to Article 35-A and other provisions safeguarding our special identity have panicked the people. The promise and stated intent of the ruling party to abrogate the special status is deeply distressing,” he said. The PDP leader asserted that any move to “erode whatever is left of the special identity will be counterproductive and would have disastrous consequences”

Keeping in view the sensitivities of Kashmir, he said it becomes imperative for the political leadership of the country to exhibit maturity and ensure already tense situation in the state is allowed to be raked up. (KNS)
