Srinagar, Dec 13 (KNS): Three militants of Kashmir Tigers, an offshoot of JeM outfit, were involved in an attack on a police bus in which two policemen were killed and 12 others were injured in Zewan area of Srinagar on Monday evening, said Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar.

In a statement to Kashmir News Service, (KNS), IGP Kashmir said, that the credible sources revealed that the attack was carried by Kashmir Tigers, an offshoot of JeM. 

He also said that in the retaliatory firing, one of the militants got injured and the group involved in this gruesome attack will be soon brought to justice.

Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said that today at about 6 pm, militants fired indiscriminately upon a police vehicle near Zewan in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar, following which senior police officers along with reinforcement reached to the spot.

The statement reads that preliminary investigation has revealed that three militants had fired indiscriminately upon a police vehicle carrying police personnel of 9th Battalion.

It reads that the police party were coming back to their campus after finishing their duties. “Although the fire was retaliated, however, taking advantage of darkness militants managed to escape from the spot. In this incident 14 police personnel were injured and were shifted to hospital for treatment.”

It reads that among the injured personnel, ASI Ghulam Hassan and SgCT Safique Ali succumbed to their injuries, whereas the condition of other injured personnel was stable.

As per the statement, IGP Kashmir on behalf of Police Parivaar paid rich tributes to these martyrs, who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

It reads that the Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this incident. 

It further reads that the area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on. (KNS)
