Three militants killed, two soldiers injured in Kulgam encounter: Police

Kulgam, June 30 (KNS): Three militants were killed and two army men were injured in an encounter that broke out between militants and the security forces in Chimmer village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday. 

Police in a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that acting on a specific information generated by Kulgam Police about presence of militants in Chimmer area of Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Kulgam Police, 18Bn CRPF and 09RR in the said area. 

“During the search operation as the presence of militants got ascertained they were repeatedly appealed to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search parties in which 2 Army soldiers got injured and they airlifted to Srinagar based Army hospital. Forces also retaliated, leading to an encounter,” reads the statement.

It reads that in the ensuing encounter, three militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. 

“They have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Bangroo resident of Redwani Kulgam, Shahnawaz Ahmad resident of Kilbal Shopian and Zakir Bashir resident of Chimmer Kulgam. All the killed terrorists were affiliated with proscribed LeT outfit (self-claimed TRF). Pertinently, Zakir Bashir had recently joined the proscribed outfit,” it said. 

As per police records, all the killed militants were part of group involved in various militant related activities.

 “Incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. In this connection police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated,” it reads.

Meanwhile, police have appealed to the people to cooperate with the police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any. (KNS)
