Srinagar, Feb 24 (KNS): Three militants, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) operations and an Army man were killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Tarigami village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Police said that three militants were killed while as DySP Aman Kumar was also killed in the gunfight.
They added that an Army man was killed in the gunfight that broke out this afternoon in Tarigam village after forces launched a joint search operation in the village following credible inputs about the presence of militants.
However, there was no official confirmation regarding the death of Army man and identification of slain militants.
Meanwhile, to pay homage and respect to slain DySP Aman Kumar, son of Swami Raj of Gogla district Doda, a wreath laying ceremony was held at District Police Lines, Srinagar.
A police spokesman in a statement issued to KNS said that Civil and Police officers led by DGP J&K Police Dilbagh Singh-IPS, IGP Ops CRPF Zulfikar Hassan-IPS, Div Com Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan, IGP Kashmir S.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelP. Pani, IG CRPF Ravideep Sahai, Range DIsG, DC Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the slain for his supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty.
Among others who paid floral tributes to the slain include senior officers of CAPF, SSP Srinagar Haseeb Mughal, SSP Security Imtiyaz Hussain, SSP SBK Showket Hussain Shah, SP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal, SSP Anti-high-jacking Srinagar Harmeet Singh, other officers and jawans of the district police and other forces.
Slain DySP Aman Kumar is survived by aged parents, wife Sarla Devi and 6 year old son Arya.
Meanwhile, clashes also erupted near the gunfight site where the youth in large number hit the streets and started pelting stones on the forces.
However, forces resorted to tear gas canisters, thus leading to clashes in the area.
Reports said scores of youth sustained injuries during the clashes who were rushed to the hospital for treatment. (KNS)
