Srinagar, Jan 10 (KNS): Thousands of passengers were stranded on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Monday due to fresh landslides along the road at several places including Ramsoo and Ramban. 

Notably, heavy rains and snowfall lashed Jammu and Kashmir over the last several days, following which traffic police ordered restrictions on traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu NHW in order to avoid any untoward incident. 

However, on Monday traffic advisory was issued, allowing vehicular movement of light motor vehicles from both sides on the highway subject to fair weather and road condition.

Going by the advisory, thousands of passengers planned travelled for Jammu and Srinagar today, however, they got stranded due to the dilapidated condition of the road. 

Several stranded passengers, while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), alleged that they have been stranded on the highway since morning due to landslides at several places. “If the administration was aware of the road condition then why did they allow traffic on the road,” they asked. 

They alleged that it is a complete mismanagement on part of the concerned department as thousands of passengers are on the road amid bone-chilling weather conditions. 

Meanwhile, a top traffic police official told KNS that about 250-300 Jammu-bound vehicles were stranded and passengers will be accommodated in nearby areas of Ramsoo due to cold weather conditions at Banihal.

He said that due to landslides, vehicular movement has been suspended to avoid any untoward incident and after stable road conditions, traffic will be restored. (KNS)
