Srinagar, Sep 17 (KNS): In a startling revelation Education Minister Naeem Akhter has disclosed that thousands of Kashmiri students have sought admission in Jammu schools so far and number is inflating day after day.
Talking to KNS over phone Akhter said the government has come to know that parents of these children are also looking for rented accommodations in Jammu city and adjoining areas. Confirming the contentions of education minister a group of parents in a written statement sent to KNS have disclosed that they are moving from pillar to post for making possible midterm admissions to save the education year of their children and are facing difficulties due to the financial burden of rented accommodations, educational expenses and travel.Education Minister also made it clear the examinations would be held as per schedule and there will be no change in session and added “time waits for none”
Confirming the reports of Kashmiri students seeking admission in Jammu schools Thakur SherSingh, Principle Govt Higher Secondary Schools Sunjaan said, “Parents of more than 50-60 students have approached for admission in our school so far. School education department is contemplating moves to start additional classes with morning and evening shifts in view of alarming increase in migration of students.”
Farhat Muzzafar master at HSS Sunjwan said, “Special classes have been started for migrant students and school management is making all efforts for timely completion of syllabi,” adding that “Parents are facing tremendous hardships in finding accommodation which in many cases has delayed admissions.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
Manzoor Ahmad Wani who shifted his three children from Delhi Public School Srinagar to a private school in Jammu on conditions of anonymity said, “Government should make an extra mile effort to save the career of lakhs of students wasted due to repeated calls of shutdown and curfew like restrictions.”
Mushtaq Ahmad Paray a resident of Budgam who admitted his daughter in class 12th at a government school in Jammu said, “Both the government and separatists organizations need to give a serious thought to devise a mechanism to ensure opening of schools as this is going to be a historic loss of generations which cannot be compensated or undone.”
Parents of migrant students in the above quoted statement have also said that they are forming a group for voicing their concerns against repeated shutdown calls and curfew like restrictions leading to prolonged closer of schools which has forced them to migrate to Jammu and other parts putting the students in mental trauma and also adding to financial burden to poor families.
The parents also said that many schools in Jammu have waived admission fee and admitted the students charging only tuition fee as a goodwill gesture in the crisis. They aggrieved parents said “A breakthrough for opening schools is still expected in coming days as majority of the populations are unable to afford migration of students.” (KNS)
