Srinagar Nov 21, KNS: Pressing the state government to release their long pending salaries, hundreds of school teachers Saturday marched from city centre Lal Chowk to Divisional Commissioners (DC) office.
The teachers initially staged protests in the education department and later decided to march towards DC office. The protesters were chanting slogans and were holding banners displaying ‘we want justice’.
Abdul Qayoom Wani, who was leading the march towards DC office and staged a protest there.
The march towards DC office disrupted the vehicular movement at several places thereby gives tough time to pedestrians as well as to those who were traveling in their private vehicles.
While talking to KNS protesters said that from last couple of months the government has failed to release the salaries of the teachers who are working in the different schools of the Valley.
“It has been four months and not a single month’s salary has been given to us during this period,” Ishfaq Ahmad, a protester said.
“Without salaries from last four months, our life has become hell as we don’t have even a single penny in our pocket to purchase anything,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“I am the sole bread earner of the family and by not releasing the salaries, my family has faced a tough time during this period,” he said.
He further said that if they are performing their duties honestly then why government is pushing them to face hardships by withholding their salaries.
Another teacher told KNS that he is married with three children and is living in a rented house with his parents. “You can imagine how hard it would have been for me to run my house in these conditions. I am taking private tuitions but that amount is not enough to meet daily expenses,” he said.
They said that the officials assured several times that their genuine grievance will be redressed soon but nothing has been done in this regard.
Meanwhile, Teacher’s Forum president Abdul Qayoom Wani said that, “State government has resorted to its routine delay tactics and non-seriousness as a result there was no headway in redressing the salary related probleof teachers. So to awaken the government from its deep slumber and to get the issues resolved, we launched this protest programme.
