Srinagar, Feb 29 (KNS): Police on Monday fired tear smoke shells and cane charged protesting teachers here who were demanding transfer of the Director School Education Kashmir for allegedly vandalizing their office at DIET in Bemina here.
Hundreds of teachers led their president Abdul Qayoom Wani assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave and raised slogans against Director Education Shah Faesal.
They chanted slogans like ‘Shah Faesal ko hatao, Education ko bachao’ (Remove Shah Faesal to save education).
Wani told KNS after the protests that they have filed a complaint against Shah Faesal for ‘vandalizing’ their office in Bemina here, but unfortunately police didn’t register a case.
“We will seek justice from the court. We are going to file a case against Shah Faesal in court soon,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“We will issue a protest programme, which will not hamper the education of our students.”
Wani told KNS that the director is trying to suppress the voice of employees by using unconstitutional ways.
He appealed higher ups to remove Shah Faesal from the Director chair and “save” education in the Valley.
As soon as the protesters tried to march towards the office of the director school education, Kashmir, police intercepted them and detained scores of its members.
Half a dozen protesters were injured when police used batons and tear smoke shells to disperse them.
Over a dozen protesters were arrested and taken to the nearby police station.
Traffic and shops in the area were momentarily affected but resumed immediately after the march was dispersed. (KNS)
