Tarigami deplores arrest of co-founder of Alt News Mohammad Zubair

Srinagar, June 28 (KNS): CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday deplored the arrest of co-founder of fact checking website Alt News, Mohammad Zubair by the Delhi police.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Tarigami said that the Modi led BJP government is using strong-arm tactics to muzzle the voice of those who expose it's false propaganda and hate speech.

He said that Zubair had been playing a crucial role in debunking the fake news and misspeak since he founded the Alt News.

“It is very unfortunate that journalists like Zubair, who highlight the truth and hold mirror to the government are being witch hunted and booked under flimsy charges while the hate mongers are roaming freely.”

He added that the Central dispensation wanted to create a smokescreen by peddling lies and misinformation merely to hide it's failure on a host of counts including political and economic.

Meanwhile, he said that CPI(M) had demanded the immediate release of Zubair and warned the government of refraining from browbeating the journalists and curbing their right to free speech. (KNS)
