Tarigami demands probe in land encroachment in health resorts

‘Revoke SRO 105’

Srinagar, June 02 (KNS): Independent MLA from Kulgam M Y Tarigami Thursday demanded inquiry into land encroachment in tourist resorts in the Valley after former chief minister and Opposition National Conference leader Omar Abdullah revealed about encroachments.
“We demand an assurance that the government will order an inquiry into the encroachment of land in tourist destinations and submit the report in the House,” Tarigami said in Lower House during Question Hour.
“It is a serious issue as former chief minister admitted that encroachment of land and illegal constructions have been carried out in tourist destinations,” he added.
Earlier, Omar said that encroachment of land has been done in Gulmarg, Pahalgam and other destinations by people.
"Permission was given for 10 rooms and 40 rooms were raised. Same should not repeat in Tosamaidan," Omar revealed.
The former chief minister revealed this when he was asking supplementary questions about Tosamaidan in the Legislative Assembly today.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, Tarigami while raising the issue of revocation of SRO 105 issued by Industries & Commerce Department today during question hour, demanded constitution of House Committee to examine this controversial SRO, by virtue of which royalty on stone quarrying has been increased and the non-state subject bidders have been allowed to participate in bidding for mineral excavation in our State.
The provisions of this SRO are not in the interests of public and are bound to escalate construction costs. Further the outside big contractors will get the entry which will grossly undermine the interests of the locals. This SRO is bound to deprive livelihood of thousands of labourers associated with quarrying and construction activities.
He demanded constitution of a House committee to examine this. Several other Hon’ble members from all the regions cutting across the party lines also supported this legitimate demand. (KNS)
