Tarigami Chairs Review Meeting of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Departments in Kulgam

 Kulgam, June 8 (KNS) : MLA Kulgam today chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries departments in Kulgam district.

The meeting focused on assessing the implementation of ongoing schemes, addressing the challenges faced by farmers and orchardists, and exploring measures to strengthen agricultural productivity and horticultural development across the district.
 
During the meeting, Tarigami stressed the need for better institutional support, timely assistance, and coordinated efforts among departments to enhance the livelihood and economic well-being of farming communities. He emphasized that agriculture and horticulture remain the backbone of the district's economy and called for effective implementation of welfare and development programmes.
 
The meeting was attended by the Director Horticulture Kashmir, Director Agriculture Kashmir, and senior district officers of the concerned departments.
 
Highlighting the concerns of the farming community, Tarigami said that the Crop Insurance Scheme remains a long-pending demand of farmers and urged the government to ensure its early implementation. Referring to the tourism sector, Tarigami urged the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to reopen the tourist destination Aharbal, stating that the prolonged closure has adversely affected the livelihood of people dependent on tourism-related activities.
 
On broader political issues, Tarigami said that all stakeholders should collectively approach New Delhi and continue efforts to restore what was taken away from the people of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. He asserted that democratic and constitutional means should be used to seek the restoration of rights.
 
Expressing concern over ongoing international conflicts, Tarigami said that the Prime Minister of India should use diplomatic channels to engage with the United States and Israel and contribute towards efforts aimed at ending hostilities so that people across the world can live in peace and heave a sigh of relief.
 
The meeting concluded with detailed discussions on sectoral priorities, challenges, and strategies for improving service delivery and strengthening support to farmers, orchardists, livestock rearers and fish farmers across the district. (KNS)
