Taj Mohiuddin Set to Rejoin Congress, Leaves DPAP Amid BJP Allegations

Srinagar, May 25 (KNS): Senior politician from Uri constituency in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Taj Mohiuddin, has announced his decision to rejoin the Congress Party.

Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Taj confirmed that he has been in touch with Tariq Hameed Karra, president of the Congress Party's Jammu and Kashmir unit, and plans to officially join the party soon.

“Today, I met with the Congress General Secretary in-charge of J&K, Syed Naseer Hussain, in Srinagar. We discussed my return to the party, and I will formally join soon,” he said.

Expressing happiness over his return, Taj said, “I am happy to join Congress again. Congress is my home. I was an MLA with the party, and it was Congress that made me a minister.”

When asked about his decision to quit the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Taj said the party was increasingly seen as being close to the BJP, which became a major reason for his exit.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He also clarified that his meeting with the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir was in a personal capacity and not political.

Taj Mohiuddin has been a key figure in J&K politics and served as a minister during the coalition governments from 2002–2008 and 2008–2014.

After a poor performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections—where DPAP failed to win any seats and most of its candidates lost their security deposits—several senior leaders, including G.M. Saroori, Mohammad Amin Bhat, and Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed, left the party.(KNS)
