Sunita Kargotra Gets Charge of DG Prosecution J&K

Srinagar, August 31 (KNS): In a significant administrative move, the Jammu and Kashmir Administration has, for the first time, entrusted the charge of Director General of Prosecution, J&K, to an officer from the Prosecution cadre itself.

According to Government Order No. 444-Home of 2026, issued on August 31, 2026, Sunita Kargotra, Director Prosecution, Jammu, has been assigned the charge of Director General of Prosecution, J&K.

The decision is being seen as an important step towards strengthening the Prosecution Service as a specialised institution and is in line with the provisions and spirit of Section 20 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, which envisages a structured Directorate of Prosecution.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The administration’s decision to entrust the charge to a cadre officer with prosecutorial experience is expected to strengthen professional supervision, case monitoring and coordination in the criminal justice system.

The move also marks greater institutional recognition of the Prosecution Service and is expected to contribute towards a more professional and effective criminal justice delivery system in Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
