Strike affects normal life in Kashmir

‘Protests against domicile certificates to WPRS at various places’

Srinagar, Dec 23 (KNS): Normal life was again paralysed in Kashmir valley due to a strike called by separatists, who have restricted the shutdown call to two days every week, in their last issued protest program.
Most of the shops, fuel stations and other business establishments in Srinagar and other parts of the valley remained shut, while public transport was minimal.
Reports of shutdown were also received from most of the other district headquarters of the Valley, the officials said.
Normalcy has returned after the separatists scaled down their agitation in the Valley, which had been hit by unrest since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir on July 8.
Meanwhile, people took out a protest rally after the Friday prayers ended at Khankah Faiz Panah in Tral area south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
According to KNS correspondent, the protesters raised slogans against the issuance of domicile certificates for West Pakistan refugees and the Supreme Court verdict on the sovereignty of Jammu and Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
They said they can’t tolerate the issuance of domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees and recent Supreme Court (SC) verdict on Jammu & Kashmir over SARFAESI Act. However, the government has clarified that no domicile certificates are being issued to WPRs.
The protests over issuance of domicile certificates to WPRs were also held in Pulwama, Baramulla, Sopore and other parts of the valley after the Friday prayers.
The joint resistance leadership had called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers against the reported move of the government to issue domicile certificates to West Pakistan refugees.
Talking to KNS, Special DGP (Law and Order), S P Vaid said insignificant protests were held in some parts. (KNS)
