Stray dog menace: Budgam colony residents live in fear, locals claim repeated attacks

Budgam, Apr 12 (KNS): Residents of Sheikhpora Pandit Colony in central Kashmir's Budgam district are living under constant fear of stray dog attacks, locals claimed on Sunday, demanding immediate intervention by the administration.

Several fresh attacks have occurred in the past few days, leaving over a dozen persons injured in one recent incident alone, locals claimed, adding that children and the elderly remain the most vulnerable.

“We cannot send children to school or allow them to play outside. Dogs roam in groups and chase people daily. Despite repeated grievances, authorities have taken no action,” a resident claimed.

“People are in constant fear. The UT government must act urgently,” another local claimed.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The menace is aggravated by poor waste management and open garbage dumping, which attract stray animals to residential clusters, locals claimed. Earlier complaints from nearby colonies had similarly pointed to the lack of sterilisation and control measures, they added.

Residents have demanded immediate sterilisation and vaccination drives, removal of aggressive strays from Pandit Colony, improved waste management, and regular municipal monitoring.

Locals have urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the district administration, and Budgam Municipal Authority to take concrete steps, including use of machinery to catch stray dogs, before the situation escalates. (KNS)
