Srinagar, Sep 27 (KNS): The walnuts of Kashmir famous worldwide are witnessing a steep decline in the market prices and farmers engaged in walnut trading say that they are forced now to sell walnut trees at minimal rates.
One of the aggrieved walnut trader Zahoor Ahmad Wani told Kashmir News Service (KNS) “walnuts of Kashmir were priced rupees 900 a kg two years back but presently these are priced even less that rupees three hundred in the dry fruit markets of other parts of the country.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThough walnuts sent here from other states are sold at higher prices in Kashmir valley but the walnuts of valley sent to dry fruit markets outside valley are not priced at more than rupees three hundred a kg against rupees 900 a kg we used to get in yester years.”
The Horticulture, Produce and Marketing department is not showing any encouraging response to the better marketing for the walnuts of valley despite repeated assurances on demands of walnut traders. (KNS)
