Srinagar, June 16 (KNS): People's Democratic Front (PDF) president Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said political parties in Jammu and Kashmir should adopt a united approach on the issue of statehood restoration instead of pursuing separate political agendas.
Questioning the need for individual protests on the issue, Yaseen said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had recently raised the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that both Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had publicly spoken about restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
"Every party is demanding statehood, but each is following its own path. All political parties should come together and form a joint political front for Jammu and Kashmir," Yaseen said in a statement.
Drawing a comparison with Ladakh, he said political groups there had adopted a collective approach to safeguard their interests and sought constitutional protections through united efforts.
Yaseen said Jammu and Kashmir's political and constitutional situation was the result of developments that unfolded over several decades and could not be attributed to a single political party.

He said parties that governed the erstwhile state after 1953 also bore responsibility for what he described as the gradual erosion of constitutional and political rights.
Referring to various political developments over the years, Yaseen said the weakening of institutions and constitutional arrangements had contributed to the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged political parties not to use the issue of statehood and constitutional rights for political gains and called for a sincere effort to restore the rights and dignity of the people.
The PDF leader said political leaders should focus on meaningful dialogue and collective engagement to address public concerns rather than turning sensitive issues into what he termed "political theatre".
He also called for a common platform of political parties to collectively pursue issues related to Jammu and Kashmir's political future and constitutional rights.(KNS).
