Srinagar Sept 09 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Friday said the Srinagar Smart city project has failed to live up to its hype and the pressing issues continue to remain unaddressed.

Party’s Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said this while expressing concern over the massive urban mess, the city of Srinagar finds itself in. “Projects which did not see the light of the day are smart parking, cleaning of water bodies, solid waste management, affordable housing, and improving basic public utility services. It will not be wrong to say that the Srinagar smart city project is only confined to papers and media dazzle,” he said.

The Project, he said, is yet to acquire a definite shape for want of proper vision and strategies. “There are just cosmetic works that are being carried out. There has been hardly any headway towards improving water supply, disposal of waste, sanitation including solid waste management, efficient urban mobility and public transport, affordable housing, especially for the poor,” he added.

He said that the cosmetic and ill-planned concretization of the city will only increase the vulnerability of the city to weather vagaries. “It is important to have all the stakeholders on board. There are no custom made solutions to the issues faced by our urban masses in Srinagar. Solutions have to be reached by wide ranging consultations. Therefore, it is imperative for the government to work towards that direction and retrieve the city from the unexampled development deficit it finds itself in. There is a crisis like situation in Srinagar. This has to end. Our people deserve better services and environment for living a better life, like their counterparts in other parts of the country,” he said.(KNS)
