Srinagar Police cracks down on drug network: 143 arrested, property worth over ₹21 crore attached

 Srinagar, May 12 (KNS): Stepping up its war against narcotics, District Police Srinagar has registered 101 drug cases and arrested 143 persons as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’.

 
An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the police have attached 15 properties—both movable and immovable—valued at over ?21.54 crore under anti-drug laws. Additionally, 35 vehicles used in drug peddling have been seized.
 
Significant contraband was recovered during the drive, including 1.299 kg of heroin, 5.540 kg of charas, over 24 kg of ganja, and 12,642 psychotropic tablets/capsules. Cash amounting to ?4.13 lakh was seized from possession, while 42 bank accounts with over ?30 lakh frozen he said.
 
The official said Srinagar Police got 84 driving licences suspended and one passport impounded. Six Aadhaar cards have been deactivated or flagged.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelEight drug peddlers have been booked under the stringent PIT-NDPS Act.
 
Special focus is being given to educational institutions, with 14 persons arrested in 8 separate FIRs near schools and colleges. Illegal opium and poppy cultivation on over 25 kanals of land has been destroyed he said.
 
During inspections of 703 chemists and druggists, 15 shops were sealed. Three properties worth ?3.55 crore were demolished.
 
The police have also conducted 210 awareness programmes involving over 27,800 participants. A dedicated anti-drug helpline (9596770550) and email ID (dposrinagar@jkpolice.gov.in) have been made public.
 
“We remain firmly committed to a Drug-Free Kashmir through strict enforcement, public participation, and relentless action against narcotics networks,” the official further added. (KNS)
