Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNS): In a bid to promote sports activities across Valley, Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council (JKSSC) flags-off its 1st batch of youngsters for the Special Certificate Course in Sports Coaching at NIS Patiala in order to groom sports talent among the youth.
The batch comprising of almost 60 youngsters, 29 from Kashmir division and 30 from Jammu division, who will be given training in various disciplines including Athletics, boxing, basketball, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, handball, health and fitness, judo, swimming, volleyball, wushu, weight lifting and others.
The Kashmir division batch was flagged off by Hilal Ahmad Parray, Commissioner Secretary Youth Service and Sports, Secretary Sports Council Waheed Ur Rehman including others. The special certificate training course is jointly sponsored by J&K State Sports Council and Sports Authority of India.
Later on, Commissioner Secretary and Secretary J&KSSC, distributed kits among the players.
Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Waheed Ur Rahman Parra, said, “Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council promotes Sports activities in the State among the students and non- student youth. Our main aim is to create and maintain social inclusion and engagement of youth, which will lead to substantial development of social capital.”
“We are trying our best to make impact in the areas of physical health, cognitive and academic development, mental strengthening, positive channelization of youth energy and making substantial contribution towards the development of society,” he added.
Meanwhile, various Sports associations of Jammu and Kashmir have appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the J&K State Sports Council towards the initiative of providing space for youth for special certificate course in sports.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Our youth have enough talent. They only need a proper direction and platform to move ahead in their lives and today we feel that the sports in Kashmir is taking a new curve and change is visible on ground," said a group of coaches of different sports associations.
They further added that the youth is our endeavour to uphold and create ample opportunities for Kashmir’s youth. “We want to create new avenues and opportunities for youth. And we are desperate to have sports stadiums in every place, where youth are eager for sports and are shunning the drug addictions,” they said.
It is for the first time in the history of the Kashmir that youth from every corner of the state has been sent for the special training course in sports. It is pertinent to mention that near about 10 girls are also parts of the training batch.
Commissioner Secretary, Secretary J&KSSC, Joint Secretary J&KSSC, PRO to Minister for Youth Services and Sports, CSO Kashmir and members of the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council were present during the flag-off ceremony.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Rugby association affiliated with J&K State Sports Council returned back to the valley. They were in Mumbai for National Junior Rugby 7’s Championship which was scheduled on 20 and 21st October 2016. The team stands 5th among 18 teams. The event was organized by Indian Rugby Football Union under the banner of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GOI and Indian Olympic Association. Around 22 states participated in the event. (KNS)
