Pulwama, Feb 06 (KNS): Thousands of people Sunday attended the funeral of Special Police Officer (SPO) turned militant, Raqib Bashir who was killed in an encounter on Saturday at Gundpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Eye-witnesses told KNS that amid complete shutdown, almost five thousand people offered funeral of SPO turned militant, at Zadoora Village.
Amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the bodies were taken in a procession for burial and laid to rest amid sobs and tears.
Scores of other people from adjoining villages also attended the funeral of slain militants, they said.
According to the reports, Raqib Bashir, a resident of Zadoora, a former SPO had joined militant outfit and was killed on Saturday in a joint operation by security forces.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, scores of Hurriyat (G) activists including Firdous Ahmad participated in slain militant’s funeral.
Spontaneous shutdown was observed in Pulwama town against the killing of Special Police Officer (SPO) turned militant in an encounter with all the shops and commercial establishments closed. Protests were reported from many villages of the area.
Reports said that clashes erupted between youth and forces in Newa Village of Pulwama district. Police resorted to tear smoke shells to disperse the protestors.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Javaid Mujtaba Gilani told KNS that the situation in Pulwama district is under control. “Situation in the area remains peaceful,” he said. (KNS)
