Srinagar, May 26 (KNS) : National Conference MLA from Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar, on Monday called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here and demanded immediate expediting of the long-pending Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and drainage projects for the town.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) after the meeting, MLA Kar said the absence of a functional STP has led to contamination of local water bodies and posed serious health hazards for residents.
"The people of Sopore have been awaiting these basic amenities for decades. The STP is critical for environmental safety. A proper drainage system and lane renovation are non-negotiable for urban dignity," MLA Kar told KNS.
The legislator said he submitted a formal memorandum to the Chief Minister, urging immediate intervention to expedite the installation of the STP, which has been delayed since long.

He also pressed for the swift execution of a comprehensive drainage project in Sopore, particularly in low-lying areas that remain waterlogged during monsoon, and sought upgradation and macadamisation of lanes and bylanes across the town.
"Poor road connectivity is a major inconvenience for daily commuters," the MLA added.
When asked about the Chief Minister's response, MLA Kar said, "He listened patiently and assured proper consideration of the demands." (KNS)
