Srinagar, Jan 26 (KNS): The incessant snowfall across the Valley continued to damage the houses and orchards in North Kashmir districts on the second consecutive day on Thursday.
However, the residents said that they are reeling under darkness from past 48 hours as the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to restore the electricity in their areas thereby added miseries among the inhabitants there.
According to KNS correspondent, Iqbal Amin, in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a rooftop of a house collapsed due to continuous snowfall from last two days.
Officials said that the house belonging to Ghulam Qadir Bhat, resident of Panzlaa area of Rafiabad has been partially damaged due to the heavy snowfall in the area.
Talking to KNS, Station house Officer (SHO) Panzlaa, Rouf Ahmad confirmed the incident and said that all the family members have been evacuated safely.
Meanwhile, according to KNS correspondent, a police man got injured after he fell from a rooftop of his house at Pazalpora area of Rafiabad.
Witnesses said that the police man was clearing the snow from the rooftop of his house during which he fell down and sustained injuries.
They further added that the injured police personnel has been shifted to shifted to SKIMS institute for specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, the reports said that Apple orchards in north Kashmir districts got also damaged due to the heavy snowfall in Rafiabad and Zangair Sopore areas of Baramulla district.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe other districts were apple orchards got damages are Watergam, Dandoosa, Chitloora, Lorihama, Achabal, Marazigund, behrampora, hib-dangerpora, Drusoo, lyser, Chijhama and others.
As per reports thousands of apple trees got damaged due to the continuous snowfall from past couple of days.
Meanwhile, the correspondent also informed that the several areas in North Kashmir are reeling under darkness from past 48 hours.
Inhabitants of Rafiabad according to KNS correspondent said that they are reeling under darkness from last 2 days as the electricity from Watergam and Rohama receiving stations are yet to be restored yet.
Exen PDD Baramulla while talking to KNS said that the transmission lines are damaged due to snowfall while the men and machinery have been pressed to get the damaged transformers repaired on war footing basis.
Meanwhile, inhabitants of Watergam said that the Municipal Committee has failed to provide a relief to the people.
“No snow was cleared from the roads in our areas as the authorities have failed to press men and machinery to clear the accumulated snow thereby leaving us to suffer at large,” inhabitants said.
The inhabitants later appealed the higher authorities to look into their sufferings and redress their genuine grievances at earliest. (KNS)
